Kolobkov Pavel Sergeevic
KOLOBKOV Pavel Sergeevich (8/5/1912, Kazan, nowadays Tatarstan, the Russian Federation – 11/27/2007, Kharkov) – the outstanding expert in the field of heat power engineering, a Dr.Sci.Tech. (1956), the professor (1956), one of founders of a scientific and technical direction «Use of thermal secondary energy resources».
He has finished Kuibyshev industrial institute (nowadays Samara, the Russian Federation) in 1936 on a speciality «the thermal power equipment of industrial enterprises» (heat-mechanic branch of power faculty). Even before moving to Kharkov has had time to work as the replaceable engineer of a thermal power economy of metal works and the assistant to chair of heat supply and ventilation of Kuibyshev construction institute. Further worked at the Kharkov project institutes «Orgenergostroy» (1937-1938, the engineer-heating engineer) and «Giprotjazhmash» (1938-1945, the planner, the senior engineer, the group engineer, the head of heat engineering sector, the deputy chief of department). In 1945 he has protected the master's thesis on a theme: «External use of heat of departing gases of metallurgical furnaces» also has passed on competition on a post of the senior lecturer of the Kharkov construction institute (now the Kharkov national university of construction and architecture). In 1956 after the termination of doctoral studies at Moscow power institute has protected the thesis for a doctor's degree on a theme «Use of secondary heat of machine-building factories». In 1949 he has replaced at position of head of the chair «Heat supply and ventilation» Cand.Tech.Sci. Lobaev B. N. in connection with moving of the last to Kiev. He headed this chair till 1989, that is for 40 years. In 1984 thanking his works in the field of use of secondary energy resources, the chair has received the name «Heat-gas supplies, ventilation and use of thermal secondary energy resources»(HGV & TSER). Since 1989 till 1999 he was the professor of this chair.
He was awarded the order «Honour Sign» (2/10/1967), medals «For labour difference» (10/30/1961), «For valorous work» (7/2/1970), «Veteran of work» (8/30/1977), «For the best research of Ministry of Education of the USSR» (12/8/1983), the certificate of honour of the Ministry of the higher and average vocational education of the USSR (12/24/1987). Also he has been awarded the honorary title «the Honored worker of science of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic» (12/9/1982). Has prepared 16 candidates of science. Had 163 printing works, including 6 monographs and 16 copyright certificates on inventions.
Was a member of several scientific and technical councils («ÂÍÈÏÈ×Ýλ, Santehproekt), three councils of protection of dissertations, the chairman of section of All-union council of heating-ventilating equipment, the chairman of a subcommittee of a Ministry of Education of the USSR of heat supply and ventilation, a member of the Scientific Council of the Ministry of road and municipal mechanical engineering of the USSR.
- The basic works:
- Heat power engineering of forge-and-press shops. Kharkov, 1959 (on russian);
- Use of steam of evaporating cooling of metallurgical furnaces. Kiev, 1961 (on russian);
- Use of secondary power resources of ferrous metallurgy. Kiev, 1979 (co-author, on russian);
- Increase of profitability of heat power engineering of ferrous metallurgy. Kharkov, 1981 (on russian);
- of thermal secondary power resources in a heat supply: the Manual, Kharkov, 1991 (on russian).
He investigated problems of cogeneration-based district heating, industrial heat power engineering and use of secondary heat. Most of the works executed under the direction of Kolobkov P. S., had a practical orientation and gave considerable economic benefit.
- Among the basic developments are:
- The Technique of a choice of a way of a drive of forge-and-press machines;
- Secondary power of an oxygen-converter process;
- The Method of regeneration of heat of converter boilers-utilizers;
- Improvement and reconstruction of Kramatorsky factories and a city;
- Cogeneration-based central heating of diesel-engine trains.
The most powerful works under the direction of Kolobkov P. S. had been executed in 70th and 80th years when by decision of the State Committee of science and technics at Council of Ministers of the USSR the chair «HGV & TSER» headed by him has been appointed the head of development of basic, circuit and technical decisions of use of TSER in industrial production. According to the program of the State Committee timed till 2000, it was planned to develop projects of reconstruction of 10 large industrial knots. Within the limits of this program the chair under the direction of Kolobkov P. S. had been carried out large-scale research developments on use of secondary heat of Magnitogorsk’s, Zhdanov’s (now Mariupol), Kommunarsk’s (now Alchevsk) and Krivoy Rog’s industrial knots which even by reserved economic calculations should give economic benefit in tens and hundreds millions roubles thanks to use of secondary heat of the industrial enterprises for needs of settlements. Only the economy of fuel made: the Magnitogorsk’s industrial knot – 1,5 million e.f.t. (equivalent fuel tons), the Kommunarsk’s industrial knot – 0,7 million e.f.t., the Zhdanov’s industrial knot – 2,5 million e.f.t. and the Krivoy Rog’s industrial knot – 1,1 million e.f.t. Results of the specified developments had been transferred to VNIPIEnergoprom.
Unfortunately, reorganisation of economy and disintegration of the USSR had stopped works in this perspective direction which during the present period of global economic and an energy crisis gets a new urgency. And it gives us hope for further promotion of ideas and developments of professor Kolobkov P. S. on a modern basis by new generation of experts in the field of heat supply and heat power engineering.
Colleagues and students remember Pavel Sergeevich as highly intellectual, exclusively intelligent and erudite person who had the unconditional authority which was based not only on knowledge and achievements but on highly moral human qualities. And this authority extended far beyond native chair, native educational institution and even a native city. Leading related chairs of HGV profile from Moscow, Leningrad, Kiev, Novosibirsk always showed to him respect, listened to his opinion and willingly co-operated. And Pavel Sergeevich's last tutorial has caused such huge interest that inquiries about it went from all corners of the former USSR.
However the depth of his knowledge and interests was not limited to narrow professional area. He was the true expert and the sincere connoisseur of works of art. The collection of pictures which includes works of widely known masters he bequeathed to the Kharkov art museum.
All who knew Pavel Sergeevich will always remember him and his affairs and hope that the example of his life and activity will become for youth the sample for imitation.
